Create Space For Change
Welcome to fasting space.
Are you ready to create some space
for change?
If you have by some magic.
Found your way to my obscure
little channel here.
Presumably it is because
you are interested in something changing.
Maybe it is. How?
Maybe it is metabolism.
Maybe it is a weight
loss goal that you have.
Maybe it is fasting specific.
Learning to do it in a more thoughtful
and gentle way.
Love to help you do it.
Hey, if you want something to change,
this session is for you.
Some space
to change to think deeply about it.
I will tell you I am going to change.
I am, and so change takes space.
Change takes time.
And what a gift
to be able to give yourself some of that.
Take a little bit right now. Dial it in.
Fasting space in the body.
Things changing and saying no to food.
Coming in for a little bit changes
the metabolism.
Flip over
into an internally focused space.
Burn the internal energy.
Turn on some recycling system.
Burn some stuff that the body didn't need
anyway.
Cleansing. Incredible.
Fasting space.
A deep space for change.
Both actual fasting space in the body.
This show, at least for my personal self.
It's been a dual purpose.
It's been about helping people
to change through fasting, right?
Help people thoughtfully and gently.
The way I see fasting,
the way I personally try to practice it.
Openness, flow.
Bringing health to the body
as a gift, never forced.
It's a type of mindset that to me,
we can really go places,
really go places with that
and dual purpose,
you know, it's been about change
personally, a conversation
you, me and the books
like this one
gonna think about this today.
A transformation, right?
We're trying to become something new.
That's the butterfly, right?
That's why I got the butterfly.
Butterfly isn't present right now, right?
Butterfly is an aspiration, but
this is cocoon phase.
You know, to me, that's where I'm at.
Maybe that's where you're at.
We're heading through a space.
We aren't exactly where we want to be.
We can picture the beautiful butterfly
flying in the future,
or we hope it exists.
If we can't even see it.
And we go through a process.
So pretty much every type of change
got to have a process.
To me, when I think about the history
of this channel so far,
even the decision to go live,
it's been a process.
It's been about learning and growing
and changing, overcoming obstacles
thinking new thoughts creating something
different, a different way of being.
It's been one of the most
beautiful thoughts that has come to me
in this
These sessions health as a way of being,
and we're all trying to find our way
of being in the world.
So many good thoughts
this session. Today.
I'm going to sign off on live
for a little while,
and that thought is coming out of a space
that I want to tell you about.
So my little thinking
here, use it as an analogy.
Can you glean something from it,
take any part of it and use it to help you
overcome an obstacle that you are facing
in your life or your health path?
I do not want you to be hindered
by any thing.
Any thought,
any experience that you've had,
any regrets that you have,
anything that happened in the past?
Look, we can be new in this moment
right here,
and we can make a powerful choice
to step forward in health
from this moment joyfully and at peace.
And this is the thing that
that I want to invite you to do.
Absolutely.
Sometimes in order to do that, in order
to create
powerful space for change,
you have to say no.
And I know this is a big thing
that I learned in the past,
something that I'm continually
having to relearn.
You have to say no in order
to have enough space and bandwidth
in order to take the next step.
Sometimes. Absolutely.
Sometimes that means saying
no to good things in order to make room
for better things.
And that is an especially hard thing
to do.
We want something to change in
life, right?
So here's an experience.
We want something to change in life.
Isn't it often the case?
Is it always the case?
I don't know, but isn't it often the case
that we have to change ourselves
in ordered for something to change?
I don't like that. Right?
We think I want to change.
That isn't at least part of that.
We have to change ourself in some way.
So he's true in the health space.
It's at least true
with our own personal self.
That's so often the obstacle is the way.
I didn't pick a passage out of this book
to read today.
We just look at the title, right?
The obstacle is the Way
turning trials into triumph. Yes.
So what I want to do.
Two thoughts
that to me are connected in my mind.
The obstacle is the way
and disease is teacher
right to me, these are parallel thoughts
that have come to me
to the very most powerful health thoughts
that I've ever come across.
When obstacles
no longer block us, when they turn into
stepping stones, and we can use them
to get to the next level in our journey,
then it is very hard to stop us.
I'm thinking of this quote
who said it very hard to stop
a person who just keeps showing up.
You know, it's like obstacle is here.
We're stepping over at obstacle is here.
We're stepping over it.
Here's the parallel thought disease
as teacher that came from Doctor
Gabor Mate in his book The Myth of Normal.
Tremendously valuable framework,
very difficult concept.
We see a disease. We want to eradicate it.
We hate it.
Which is fine in my view,
but also to see the other side of it,
to see
that it might have something to show us.
And that has has happened to me
in my life,
where I've learned from a disease
that happened to me personally
came out better on the other side of it,
very fascinating,
very painful and difficult experience.
And so here, here,
I'm having that experience again
is my personal experience.
If you've been following
along with me on a channel, you know that
I was having literally
the best summer of my entire life.
We launched
the Summer Weight Loss Challenge,
which was a personal challenge
as much as it was a
a desire to bring people into this space
and be helpful.
And. I fired up.
I told the story of the century.
I was writing 100 mile bike rides and
and we launched a epic
fasting hike up Winter Star Mountain.
And who knows, maybe that's even
where I ended up getting Lyme disease.
And so I crashed, you know, crashed out.
I was feeling the best
I had felt in years.
And it was like, oh.
And then, you know,
so I disappeared for almost a month.
It was dreadful.
And then here's the thing.
Almost as soon as it was humanly possible,
I flipped this back on and I came here
and I started doing live again,
because I love it, I do, I do.
I've just loved the live I got.
If you were to be able to secretly read
my personal journal, you'd see a lot
of writing about the live sessions
and the thinking of doing it.
It's been overcoming some battles,
you know, to do it and.
So it felt good.
You know, my personal
feeling about myself.
We were talking on one of the sessions
the other day, a couple of them
all or nothing,
thinking we've gotten into that.
This is something
I've long recognized about myself.
I have a lot of all or nothing thinking.
This is like
definitely a way that I tend to operate.
And having brought awareness to
it is something that I,
you know, have found helpful to be able
to bring balance into some things
and to recognize when is a time
when we don't have to do that.
And, you know, for over a year
I've really practiced that,
you know, balancing some things.
I've got multiple things happening.
You know, we can spread some things out.
We can be running a clinic and a diabetes
education
service and a live stream session
and, and look, you know.
But I've put the I'll be honest,
over the last year I've put the majority
of my focus into these live sessions
I have.
That's part of the reason
that I switched them into the 630 time
slot for a long time so that I could,
you know, get the whole live session done.
And then I added on the podcast,
which you can get through simple fasting
audio of these sessions
brought into the podcast.
This is how
I've tended to work in my life.
Take an idea, ratchet it up.
You know, more, more, more.
I was like,
oh, like, we're doing a video channel now.
Make it live or doing live weekly.
Let's do it every weekday.
It's like, oh, we're doing a live session.
Is that a podcast?
Do you see?
We're wrapping it up, ramping it up,
which is fine.
Certain benefits to that I like
and I like that, you know,
in a certain way on the other side of it,
very hard to stop a process like that.
Like you get I get going on a process.
It's like, that's the all or nothing
part of it.
You basically take a catastrophic illness
and put me in bed for weeks
to, like, get me to stop something.
Have you ever experienced
anything like that?
You know what I mean.
It's, like,
really hard to really create space.
Like I would say, oh, here.
I'm somebody who values space.
I talk on a live session about how
I do a meditation, and I do do that.
Okay.
But is it
enough space to like, really create
a profound reflective space,
you know, a change
your life sort of level
where we're like, open to it?
Can you get locked in a space I like?
I already changed my entire life, man.
Like I shut down
an entire medical practice.
Really, like three medical practices
and like, whoa.
So so it's like,
do you see I already changed.
Don't need to continue to change.
Wrong thought.
That's what I realized
when I finally had enough space here.
Is it called wrong thought?
Still changing.
Still have to change.
Have not arrived at a space, right?
It's whole process transformation.
Where are you at with it?
Have you arrived
or are you still in the cocoon?
You know.
Is there still work to be done?
That's what I realized, man.
There's actually a lot of work to be done.
And it hit me in this space like, oh,
now this has become comfortable.
We stretched into a space, but now I think
I've got a pile of like 40 books.
I could do this show in this thinking,
you know, forever, basically.
And sometimes I've had the thought like,
oh, this should be the new thing.
I love it, thinking maybe I still will,
you know,
I don't know, but we're taking a big pause
here.
I'll tell you exactly why,
but it's like we got I got to really break
this down to a fundamental level again
and do some really deep thinking.
This is diseases teacher here.
Here's the thought.
As soon as I could physically bounce back
from Lyme disease and flip the camera
on, I started cranking out these shows,
you know, doing it, which felt good.
It helped me.
We did radical acceptance,
you know, beautiful thoughts.
And I loved it.
And I'm really happy I did it.
But as I've sat here and done this show.
You know,
my human experience has been the bandwidth
that I personally have is so much less,
you know, than before this Lyme.
So am I still recovering from it?
And how long is this going to take,
you know, before this
unfortunate experience happened to me,
you know, I'd be up at 530,
I'd be getting all cleaned up.
I'd be getting everything set to do this
show.
I'd do the show. We engage, we talk.
I have an entire podcast mix down
and on the site, you know, before 8:00.
And I'm up to say my kids goodbye.
I've done, like,
a whole day's work at like, felt like.
And now it's 8:00
and I'm just getting revved up
and I'm going to see my clinic consults
and I'm going to be working
on my diabetes program,
and I'm going to be doing so many things.
And I tell you, I just do not I don't have
a quarter of that bandwidth right now.
And that's that's been radically
frustrating, radically frustrating for me.
My experience, you know,
I pushed this show out to 830,
slow roll it in the morning,
get myself here.
I basically and by the time I do the show,
maybe do the podcast,
maybe try to think about, you know,
what will we do tomorrow?
Like, I mean, it's
taking all the bandwidth of of head like I
my favorite thing you probably know
if you are following along
like reading is like my favorite thing.
I, I read all the time.
I just, I basically have no bandwidth
to do it after doing this.
And so I've been sitting here
in this space
and reflecting deeply,
don't know how long this is going to take.
Like what
what is happening and reflecting on
this whole experience of being very sick.
And you know, how awful it's been,
how much I've hated it,
how much I wish it hadn't happened.
And then I'm dialing in on these thoughts.
Obstacle is the way.
This is what I tell other people.
I start telling myself,
disease is a teacher.
I tell other people,
do I tell it to myself?
I've been sitting here yesterday.
I did the session, really loved it.
Fasting alone or eating with the herd.
Really thoughtful insight
from atomic habits.
I finished that.
And I was like, I just I was like,
I can't even think, hardly
can't think about tomorrow.
So I.
Did up walking down to the lake
and sitting
under a tree by the lake
for about three hours.
There is some space.
You want to create some space
for change here.
I have the incredible opportunity to be
able to do that and my schedule was clear.
Didn't have to get to the office.
Re hours open. Go sit.
Watch the clouds.
Watch the water.
Just think about think about it, you know.
The thought that was coming to me.
What is what if
what if this is how it was?
Now I'm I'm exceptionally optimistic
that I'm going to keep feeling better.
I'll be back to my.
Incredible energy that I was having.
In the middle of the summer at some point,
but it's not here now.
This is not that season. Clearly not.
I was having the thought under the tree
yesterday.
I was like, what if it wasn't, you know?
Very hard thought.
What if it wasn't?
You know, there's no guarantees, right?
There are no guarantees.
Anything in life,
including that this beautiful experience
continues even a day more than we have.
And as I was.
Really dialing in, you know,
to that space, I say, if it was the case,
if I only have a bandwidth
that is like 2 or 3 hours out of a day,
what is the very highest yield thing
to do at that time?
You know?
And then it hit me, you know,
like these thoughts diseases teacher.
Right.
Like this whole process is showing
this is just a microcosm
of how things already were,
how they always were.
But you just don't realize it
because you don't take the time to stop
and think about it, you know?
And you know, it hit me there.
I was like, whoa.
Like like it took
having this period of illness like,
really to like and look, things stopped,
like everything ground to a halt.
Like in my entire life. Like.
Like you're just locked in on doing this
live show.
I was like, but look, you took a space,
and this happened.
Not planned.
All of a sudden,
three weeks, like, it stops.
Like everything is okay.
Life is going on.
Okay, now we're now we're back at it.
But all of a sudden,
you start reflecting things different.
Now, all of a sudden,
some clarity is coming.
All of a sudden
we start seeing the connection like, oh,
see, right now
your bandwidth is limited, right?
Medical condition limiting it.
Disease is showing you
this is how it always is.
You can't do everything right.
We cannot do everything.
This is I was realizing in many ways
I've recreated the same process that I was
suffering from,
you know, before I left the university,
which is that
I'm a very interested person.
I'm interested in many things and good
things always want to try to help people,
but it's always the next thing,
the next thing,
another thing,
always ratcheting things up.
I'm reading a book right
now, trying to very slowly,
David Epstein Inside the Box
new book release.
Loving it so far,
I don't think I brought it here.
The subtitle is something about
how constraints actually move us forward.
The section I was reading yesterday.
Most people try to solve problems
by adding things
to solve it, and very few people.
Try to solve problems by subtracting.
And that has been hitting me really hard
because I'm fasting
space, fasting, subtraction, right?
Taking away stress and pressure
as we're taking away food,
I was realizing, oh, this is the metaphor.
This is the path in life to show.
What I was realized of
recreated this same process
from the university
by with everything that I made.
Oh, and I love it all.
But then I had a beautiful call.
This was before I got sick.
Beautiful call with Hod.
Shout out to Hod if you're watching
or listening on the replay.
Hod and I had a great chat and hopefully
I provided some benefit to you.
You provided much benefit to me
with a comment.
You know how it was trying to understand
what is it that you do, you know,
and I was saying, well, I do this
and I do this, and I do this,
and I do this, you know.
Here's the line that I've always drawn.
It's not like
I have no self-awareness. I'm aware.
It's like, oh, I have one program.
I create another here in business.
Okay? I'm not a business person. I'm
a doctor. Right?
But I'm a doctor
trying to create a unique business.
They say you have to focus on one thing
so that you can do it really well.
You know,
which I perfectly well understand.
At least it seems like I might,
maybe I don't.
On the other hand,
they also say at the same time,
you've got to experiment and try things
so you can figure out what works.
And so it's like those are kind of
there's a lot of tension there.
Do you see what I'm saying?
Hod was like, man
what is the one thing you know.
And so that really that really hit me.
I was like, yeah, you know,
we're rolling with a few different things,
but what is the one thing?
And so this session, this season,
this period of time when my bandwidth
has really been struck down.
So you can't do everything. That's
what's been hard.
You know, I fired up the live, but then
it made it very hard to go see consults.
You know, it's like people coming to
the clinic and I love the clinic.
And then when I'm doing live and clinic
and trying to do it, it's like,
oh, it's hard.
You know, I have a lot of ideas
on my diabetes program
and it's like no bandwidth to enact it.
This season has shown me
if there's any silver lining to it,
was that that same dynamic
was happening in my life this whole time,
but I couldn't see it.
It's taken this period of difficulty
and struggle to actually it's like a lens.
Do you see, to actually be able
to see that?
Bring it into focus.
Creates the space for change.
This is what we're trying to do.
A disease has been a teacher.
A disease is showing me,
okay, look, we've had the season here
of doing everything again.
I was like, but I was just saying, like,
do you see that this can't quite
be the way forward,
you know, can't quite be.
Is one of the thoughts that came to me
sitting under the tree yesterday.
It's like, might have to do what the book
says, right?
Improve by subtracting, right?
Create space. Gotta do it.
Was easier to say no to things
when they weren't my things like,
I create this whole live show.
I'm not saying I'm.
So I'm going to take a pause
from it, right?
Voluntarily.
Not because I'm getting knocked out of it
by some illness.
I could do it.
I'm going to voluntarily do a little pause
and then do some real thinking,
create some real space.
A because I think
the brain might really need it.
You know, as I've sat here,
everybody say like, oh,
take it easy after you have this line
like, don't rush things back.
Kind of rushed back.
You know, I would say, because that's
kind of the type of person I am.
You know, I just, you know, very intense.
I think many times like,
I just I bring intensity to things.
I can see very hard to stop.
But now are a couple weeks
in, I'm thinking, I don't know.
I mean, I think it was good to do it.
It felt good.
Get back, do some thinking,
just turn the system back on.
But now it's kind of like,
I think we might need a little more space.
Like, that's level one.
And then level two is like with the other
thought I was having.
Like, if it didn't get better,
what would be the one thing?
And this is the real deep thought,
the deep thought
that I want you to bring like focus.
Like if there were one thing,
if the bandwidth in health was narrowed,
like if you really had to dial in
to make a difficult choice,
to really take a powerful step
in a direction,
how would you dial in and do it to me,
as I thought about it,
you know, the talks we've done recently,
I did a couple talks on my study
and then the broader experience
that people
have with research
and fasting and diabetes.
As I sat for a long period of time
yesterday,
I thought if I had
only the tiniest bit of bandwidth,
which actually is the reality in general,
you know, before even
this was like the most impactful thing
I could possibly do for a person
that I can see, you know, in this moment
is the diabetes intervention that we did
in the study.
You know, it's profound.
I mean, it is profound.
And I love fasting in general.
I love fasting for weight loss.
You know, one of the ideas I've explored,
you know,
if I could just launch a general weight
loss show, if it could connect with
hundreds of thousands of people,
and we have a space where, you know,
where we can bring mindfulness
and thoughtfulness and,
you know, that would be profound. And.
You know, so this session
hasn't exactly been that the irony is,
I've gone through and looked
at the history of what we've done.
I was doing it yesterday.
I can let's see if it'll work if I bring
us here's where we started, you know,
so I went through this whole thing
of like the live of where we started
You know, this is cross three years,
24, 25, 26 as we gone through.
And, you know, it's very interesting
when we go back
into the beginning
on some of these sessions,
the reflection I have, you can laugh,
but it seems to be true.
The more I have spoken and the more work
I have done and put into the show,
the less people have watched.
This was an interesting observation,
which is true,
you know, second show 144 people watching,
and then we get down, you know, here
I put these things.
Not everyone is like that, but many are.
And then we had head through and
you know, sometimes, you know, now it's.
Me and Marie and Pat and Beverly and bless
everybody
who is here, you know, bless you.
But, you know,
if we could build this into a thing,
I think it's interesting
that that isn't happening.
So I could just say, like, here is a line
I was thinking yesterday,
I was like,
maybe something needs to change.
Like maybe you need to change.
Like, you think that this is
getting better, but maybe it isn't.
You know, the numbers, you know
are not suggesting it,
but that just got me searching through,
you know, the history
and even these original sessions.
I mean, they were great.
I love them thinking
you thought about these things.
Loved it.
Build a vigorous mindset.
So good.
Embrace seasonality for weight loss.
You know,
I was going through these sessions
as I was going and I was like,
I just love it.
I've loved this whole experience.
Type two diabetes can be healed.
Let it sink in.
You know,
that was a powerful session for me.
And then that that really hit me
going back and looking at it,
let it sink in.
You know, like this whole channel has been
you know, it's been two things.
I'm sharing thoughts,
but I'm sharing them with myself.
You know, that was a headline to myself.
You know, like I'm thinking of myself
in that session like,
listen, you ran this clinical trial,
you know, the results and like.
Have you really let it sink in?
And then then part of it is like,
this is what I'm seeing in this space.
Like,
if I have only the tiniest bandwidth, why
am I not spending 100% of that bandwidth
to do the incredible thing?
You know, it's like there's because
there's multiple incredible things.
This one answer, and it's like it's
hard to know what the thing is.
And I don't know how to do it right
is barriers. But.
It's just becoming more clear
as I've come back.
You know, we got to really let it sink
in a deeper level.
We've got to create some space to do it.
I just say if I have only one thing
because we don't know, maybe it's true.
Maybe I only have one ability
to do one more thing in my life, you know?
Shouldn't it be the most powerful thing,
the most potential
to really help people is is inspiring me.
So that's why I'm taking a pause.
I don't know if it's going to be a week
like like as I look through this, like,
I don't want to stop it.
This process has helped me personally
develop some in so many good thoughts.
I don't really want to stop doing it,
but then I just I just have to for a bit
because I got to tell you,
I hate some sitting under the tree.
Yesterday so many ideas came to me
for for the diabetes program that I just
I have to do it.
I just have to do it.
And I don't have
I probably maybe this is my thought.
Maybe I do have enough bandwidth right now
to do it, but it would.
It could be the only thing I could do.
So I'm going to pause the live.
I'm going to dive
deep on this diabetes program.
I'm going to try to create something,
something great.
And maybe it won't work,
but I got some ideas.
We're just going to give it a try.
That's what
I've been doing for two years or more.
Just trying some stuff.
Try to find what works.
I love this, no rules for weight loss,
only what works and what doesn't, right?
And we just learn from it.
Like we said in that session
the other day, some person going to really
resonate with an O'Malley and someone else
going to be overwhelmed by it, you know?
So it's like, no rule.
There's no one size fits all policy.
Love this talk.
Stop inflammation how fasting resets
the immune system and stops inflammation.
You know,
I just talk about all these things.
It's so interesting to me.
Like you go in the beginning
like look in the beginning
of some of these sessions, just
I love what I've learned about this,
you know,
look at this yellow green color balance.
You know, I just think I didn't know
how to color balance my camera.
I had on this lens where everything
was warped in this space. And.
Then you can see the flip.
I remember I took a weekend.
It was right after that inflammation talk.
I really loved that talk.
And it was like, it's
too bad that this looks so bad.
I spent the whole weekend. There it is.
And we went from that one.
And this look into the look we got now
fixed the camera color
balances true to life got the right lens
so everything isn't distorted.
And then that also correlated
with the flip to going live every weekday.
I was like, man, we're going to dial in
and hit this really hard.
Maybe, I mean, the total views I spent
and you can see the flip, we go live
and then the views drop every day
and then the views drop off,
but probably the same total views,
you know, say it's just deleting the time.
So it's just, you know, it's fine.
Very interesting to reflect on.
Marie says I totally understand
limited bandwidth.
Sometimes you have to step back.
Good luck.
Thank you. Good continued luck to you.
You know, the simple fasting
not disappearing I love.
I hope you understand.
I love this channel.
I love the thinking,
I love doing it, and I'm not like
I'm never not coming back to it.
But a pause is going to happen
and we're going to come back.
Butter.
And what will what we're better look like,
I don't know.
Will it be live? Maybe. Maybe it will.
What should it be?
I would love to hear from people.
I really would love to hear
from people of what?
What would be most helpful?
I've thought, should I come back live?
Should it be every day?
Or was it better once a week
and just put it in a tighter container?
I've done some thinking
about making it an evening show.
Maybe I would do that,
and also been doing
some thinking about
just going back to producing videos.
I think that's really what YouTube wants.
You know, part of it,
as I've learned about YouTube,
YouTube, not pushing a lot of,
you know, hour long rambling
live sessions, YouTube pushing tight,
structured, formatted,
you know, high intensity.
You give people a lot of value
and keep, keep.
I think there's a space for that.
I watch, you know, I watch different
talks, you know, and speakers,
they don't give it live
because then they just edit out the space.
To me I feel like fasting space.
It always felt wrong
to edit out the space.
But then I guess I do do it.
I do it on the podcast, which feels good.
Just keep the flow going.
If I'm making a video,
I edit out some space.
So I don't know, you know,
there's pros and cons to it.
Anyway, I do some thinking about it.
One thought I had is
I love giving these talks.
I love doing the research,
reading the papers, putting together
the talks, maybe I.
Still do that at some future point.
I got my whole list of talks.
Maybe I just do the talks but
then edit them into more polished video.
So I connect with more people.
Hidden history of obesity.
That was that was a deep dive.
I really love that.
I think that perspective
would help our society
if we really could dig deep on it.
I just think that this whole paradigm
is nowhere in our society
that this is actually a problem
that is many centuries in the making.
And it isn't just in this moment, really.
Can we open our mind on a deeper level?
And then you can see
we start improving the thumbnails.
We did some things to love
all of this stuff.
I don't know, I could talk about
all of this, this session,
one of my favorites, perseverance,
because I just took one word
and went off for half an hour.
Perseverance. I just love that.
That might be the first podcast
when I did to really love that so much.
Good.
This is all the stuff
that resonates with me anyway.
Your path, not theirs.
Fasting and forgiveness.
Let go of the weight. Yes, please.
What a beautiful thought.
Here we dialed in together
a Thanksgiving year.
I went live from my folks place.
Metarctia Watson, one human family.
What a beautiful song.
Gratitude and blessing.
This was a tough one, man,
this is embarrassing.
I went back and watched that.
You know, I just tried to read
that simple verse of that song.
The lost Words blessing. I'm like crying.
I couldn't even do it.
I was in a real emotional space,
just thinking about
gratitude and thanksgiving and my family.
Let go of regret, let go of anger.
See, these are messages to myself, to.
I've just been trying to do that.
It's been a beautiful,
beautiful series of thoughts.
I personally come back to this stuff
to like dial in my own mindset.
And I'm really happy
that this is here as a resource.
Maybe I'll be back next week
and I start making more things like this,
but probably not.
See, I've got it.
I haven't finished my whole process.
I got to dial in on this.
Very hard to say no.
So you have momentum to something?
Very hard to say no.
Very hard not to just keep it going.
It was why change is so hard.
We get into grooves and patterns
and take space to get out of that.
This is to bring it back,
like to our sort of thing.
Like this is why fasting can be so good
for you.
Want to. You're stuck in eating patterns.
You stuck in lifestyle
patterns, fasting space.
It's just like wipe the slate clean.
It's like there's no pattern here.
The pattern is no pattern.
We're getting back to a root level.
A stable foundation for weight loss.
Look at that one. Start there. Love that.
So here we are
at the beginning of the year.
Now we're starting in new books.
Mountain is you.
There's the first one climbing
the mountain.
That book has been so helpful to me.
Eat real food and then stop.
Beautiful session.
When the FDA released the new food
pyramid, which is way
better than the old one.
Really it is.
What is holding you back?
Is it you? Is it me?
Definitely. I'm seeing in this space.
I definitely hold it myself back.
We all are holding ourselves back. Yep.
Fighting ourself, uncovering
the hidden benefit of self-sabotage.
I can see it very clearly now
because we don't have to change.
We don't have to step out.
We don't have to do difficult things
that we don't even know how to do.
We don't have to learn and grow
and keep changing.
You say, I already changed.
It's like we get to the plateau, right?
This maybe this is the big thing.
We've talked a lot about plateaus
and we can have a lot of grace
sort of things.
But is the plateau really?
Because change is hard
and we've been through change to get here
and we just don't want anymore.
No. I've been floating in a plateau.
I can see right now
that it hurts to stretch, doesn't hurt
to stretch into something new.
Isn't it painful?
Isn't a process of growth
and change difficult?
You can flow through a plateau.
It's like you don't have to change, right?
Don't have to do it.
You got to choose to climb the mountain.
This is the book.
The mountain is you.
How do you overcome it?
You know, we self-sabotage
so that we don't have to change.
Its providing comfort.
This is why he's beneficial.
This is why it's hard.
Because we want to be comfortable.
We don't want to change.
We fight ourselves because a big
part of ourselves doesn't want this.
You know,
say it's we'll stay here in the cocoon.
It's warm.
We don't have to stretch.
We just sit here. Right?
That's why we take this approach.
Let's just build the mindset now.
1% better every day, right?
If we're stuck in a space like that
plateau fighting ourselves
just 1% better over day,
okay, let's just start taking it.
That's the mindset
I took when I turn the camera back on
after I got sick, I'm like, you know what?
I'm just going to start the process.
We're going to get a little bit better
every day.
And that is helping me dial back in.
And then it trips into this space under
the tree where I'm like, you know what?
Let's go. You know what I mean? Let's go.
Let's do something.
Okay.
Let's just hyper dial in.
Let's say no to
every single other thing that is blocking
and taking up the bandwidth.
And let's create
something really, really beautiful.
Move beyond our fear. I'm going to do it.
I can see I'm afraid of quite a few things
of really dialing
in on this process,
but I'm going to embrace the unknown.
I am going to step out
and I'm going to do anything,
something different, something new,
give it a shot, get a better process.
I am going to build a better process
for myself and for a lot of people.
We are going to build something
really beautiful, really incredible.
That's what we want.
Going to create the belief. Incredible.
But very grounded.
Where was the thing?
No hype.
This is the thing. Everything grounded.
Look at this one.
Bring it all into balance.
Like everything else going to be.
Bringing blood sugar
into balance, like weight.
And our mindset and everything in our life
shift the identity transformation.
There's another favorite one.
Find any show with one word.
And it's going to be a favorite one
because it is powerful.
Transformation is what we are here for.
Space for change is about transformation
moving us into powerful new spaces.
Path begins right where you are.
I'm just going to start today.
I'm starting today.
Right now, right where I am.
Empower myself.
I hope you empower yourself.
I hope you equip yourself with every tool,
every mindset, every positive,
encouraging word that will help
you take powerful steps forward in health.
Build the skills to do it.
You know.
Push ourselves beyond our upper limit.
This whole thing is a
it's a giant list of mindset to me
that is going to help me do it.
I'm going to do it.
Going to overcome perfectionism.
Do you ever struggle with that?
I do good enough is going to be good
enough.
We're going to get it done. Awesome.
And then we're starting to head
into the present moment,
flow through all of these thoughts.
Getting ourselves
unstuck is what we're doing right now.
Powering through the next
barrier I was
I had a fleeting thought in my mind.
The last one, we're going to power
through the last barrier and get there.
But who knows?
You know, maybe
we're just in the first innings anyway.
Probably, probably. But it's okay.
We solve one problem and then the next,
and we don't get overwhelmed.
This is living in the present.
Such a huge thing I've tried to bring.
That's what I'm going to be doing.
Live in the present, solve
today's problems today.
Take the step that we can take.
That's 1% better every day.
Without putting the pressure on ourselves.
Right where I'm making it up as we go.
And that's okay.
I know. I sure as the world,
that's the whole thing,
no pressure is why I love Rick Rubin.
That's why I brought that series
in Relaxing Artist.
We're just painting, right?
Painting is a joyful exploration.
We're just creating some things
here in our life, some spaces of wellness
and wholeness breaking out of our cages.
Yes, we're doing it.
Minimalism and fasting.
The Art of Internal decluttering.
I love that title.
Find some inner clarity.
Oh my gosh, this is the process
that is happening to me right now.
We're going to practice some minimalism.
My favorite philosophy. Minimalism.
Not about having nothing,
only having the most essential things,
giving space to them
so that they can only flourish.
Look at that.
Healing the heart of our hunger.
Everything operating on multiple levels,
right?
Physical hunger?
Yes. The emotions, the situations.
I can feel that right now. That session.
Right.
Man, I was powerful getting into the body,
putting the hand, actually
physically pushing it into the heart,
feeling love and compassion for ourselves.
It takes that we're going to do something
difficult, right?
We're going to have to have a mindset
of like that.
Absolutely. Bring that.
Put a lot of sessions together here.
Oh man, more to come.
I got to tell you. More to come.
Especially some talks like this
gonna come.
We're gonna we'll see when and where but.
Where. And there was the last one.
You can see it.
Look at that poor guy. That guy.
Oh, man.
Looking a little rough.
You know, that was a tough one.
Radical acceptance.
I did not yet know what was happening.
Ouch. Starting over isn't easy.
Then we're back.
It's beautiful.
Things happened here the last few weeks.
Starting over isn't easy.
Take one step at a time. Lotus flower.
That was beautiful.
The lotus flower blooms most beautifully
from the deepest and thickest mud.
That's where I was feeling.
Oh, man. It's all right.
Slow down, you see.
Slow down. Feed.
What really matters is
what I'm going to start doing.
Don't wait. I'm not right.
I'm taking my own advice. Doing it right.
This is what I'm trying
to give you a mirror.
Wherever you're at in your life.
Don't wait.
Feed what really matters.
Make the difficult choice go in 100%.
You know what I mean? All in.
Are you all in on yourself
and your process?
Or you taking 100% of the steps
in the most thoughtful
and gentle way, but the most powerful way
at the same time?
That process, finding that balance
between grace and compassion
and courage and strength,
that is the process of learning
to trust yourself,
bringing things into a space of peace.
Peace isn't it also, isn't it two things?
Isn't it a space of calm, acceptance
and recognizing that everything is okay
and nothing has to be done?
And isn't it also an understanding
that we are acting in alignment
with who we are and purpose?
Both things?
If we are not acting in alignment,
can't we feel that?
Isn't that what creates
a certain amount of anxiety?
Can't we feel it?
Something needs to change.
That's not a settled place, right?
When we know
we are not acting in alignment either
like that we need to do something else.
We're feeling a calling.
Whatever you call
that is the universe or whatever.
It's like, no, it's like a calling.
A probably should be doing something.
It's not a peaceful state.
It's like we need to be stepping
in alignment.
Also, no steps required,
opportunity calling,
taking the steps
that we can thoughtfully and graciously.
I think we can really sink
into a space of peace that way.
Really happy to have gotten
this talk out here.
Fasting induced overeating.
Wanted to get that out for a long time.
Very important topic
that I wanted to put out there.
Oh man, I love flowing through that.
So this stuff is here
as a resource for anybody that is here.
It's not going
anywhere, as are all the shorts.
Look at all of these things.
Little fasting nuggets. Oh my gosh.
Always here.
You need a little boost
to go back to the videos.
Hit the playlists.
Not going anywhere.
I'm so happy that this stuff is here.
I love you too.
I do,
it's just it's an incredible platform.
How incredible is free? You know?
And this stuff is here.
Anybody can access it anytime.
I love it, I'm happy about it.
450 videos here
for your fasting enjoyment.
Very interesting.
Very interesting experience so far.
More to come
I am imagining, but for the time being
what I will say
come join me over at doctor Z method.
I am going to be dialing in
big time on doctor Z method.
I will be live in the doctor
Z method community.
So many people who stick with me
here on the channel
already in the doctor Z method. And.
Don't be a stranger, say hello,
come to the live session, just pop in.
We have a chat face
to face on an actual video call.
Be very nice and I'm going to bring
many of these types
of thinking into that space while I do it
anyway.
Going to keep doing it, going to build
that.
Continue to build that into something
more and more powerful.
And keep in touch.
D is at simple fasting.
Com that's the email.
You can find that information
on simple fasting.
You hit contact up there
and you get the email and the phone.
Keep in touch.
Share thoughts and ideas.
That's what I say.
What is the most helpful process
for the future?
What ideas do you have
for the future of simple fasting?
Video channel
I do want to know should it just be this
you know this is maybe good enough.
You know I love it.
Flowing through all that thinking,
I just, I love looking at it.
And sometimes I go back
and I watch some of these sessions and
I personally it gives me encouragement
and I don't know.
And then I think, well,
we could come back with more polished,
edited videos,
more in the classic YouTube style.
Maybe that region help more people?
Maybe.
But then I just sit
and I watch a live session and I'm like,
well, this is kind of what I would
want to watch, you know, not so rushed,
not in a hurry to get anywhere real.
You know,
sometimes some of the as I reflect,
you know, you put yourself out online,
sometimes you get
you get different thoughts from people.
One of the most common
kind of negative thoughts
that I have gotten is like, are you AI?
I bet I bet creators
get a lot more of that
in the future, you know, as all this stuff
keeps going, I did.
I did a session on AI weight
loss in the age of AI didn't I loved that.
It's like we need things that are real,
you know, real people connecting.
And you know,
the live is more like that than a video.
I've loved Maybe we come back to it.
So send me an email and.
Share your thoughts.
Connect in Doctor Zen method.
Doctor Z method going to be dialing weigh
in on diabetes.
But diabetes is the n spectrum
of metabolic dysfunction.
Anybody? Prediabetes.
Anybody trying to lose weight.
You're not going to feel out of place.
Come hang out. Share your perspective.
The very highest yield
thing to do get weight in a good space.
You know, insulin
resistance is improving in that space.
And that is a process
going to prevent diabetes from happening.
The highest yield diabetes intervention,
keep it from happening ever
in the first place.
That would be like the doctor
Z method super sized.
And so I'm not going to advertise it.
I think advertising I'm going to try
to keep real tight on diabetes.
But anybody coming in weight
loss a welcome you
and we we all walk on the journey toward
better health
and overcoming our obstacles together.
Either way, creating space for change.
That's been this space.
Thinking about space
that I'm going to be taking, that I have,
and then within that space,
with the strength that we have,
with just the resources we have,
whatever it is.
What is this like a Roosevelt quote?
Do what you can with what you have,
where you are.
And so in this season, I'm
going to muster the strength that I have,
dive in and, and, and really focus
on this diabetes intervention.
There's just there's nowhere that does
what my study does, you know.
And there should be like
I really believe it.
There should be there should be a place
where people with insulin use for type
two diabetes can come and help people
to do what we did in the study,
help them to reverse and unwind
the process so they can be free of it.
The risk, the danger of it, the misery
of it, the cost like it can be done.
It should be being done right now
and it isn't being done.
I just met with a patient yesterday
who has been on insulin for 15 years,
and it has driven huge amounts of weight
gain, and every time
they try to step back, they get yelled
at by their endocrinologist.
And I walked people through like,
this is the process.
We're going to help you to do this.
Open up space safely,
decrease the medications, the like, like,
you know, it's just incredible,
you know, and like
we're doing it,
it's like we should be doing this.
Like we're just going to do it somehow.
I'm psyching myself up.
Nobody else is going to do it.
Like that's how I feel like.
And then I flowing through this,
I'm gonna I'm gonna read through my own
live list again and I'm going to
I'll probably go watch that one.
That was like moving
beyond our fear, embracing the unknown.
And then the same process, like
I knew nothing about doing a live stream.
How many challenges
did we overcome to do this?
I mean, how many times, like early
on, a couple of those videos.
If you watch through the archive,
you'll see all of a sudden I disappear.
You know, this goes black, you know,
because so many problems,
so many things, you mess up. Right?
This is the thing.
This is why we give ourselves
all the grace, right?
Things going to go wrong.
Challenge is going to happen.
But every obstacle then we learned.
And then, you know, I made a nice
little live experience, right.
I'm going to do the same thing
to take my current clinic, turn it into
powerful force that is helping people
and a much bigger level.
It needs to be much bigger,
much more powerful,
you know, much more accessible,
much more understandable to people.
So people understand.
Oh, this is a place where I can come
and have healing of something
or someone really going to help me,
you know?
See, right now
I don't have that language exactly.
But we're going to open the space
and I'm going to get it.
If you have the language, send it to me,
email it to me, and I will say thank you.
All right.
Until next time.
Until whatever is next.
Hit subscribe. Hit the notification.
So whatever comes next, you will be aware
doctor Z is back and simple fasting.
We'll see when it is.
Bless you for being here
and we'll talk again soon.
Have a great day everybody.
